Nigerian troops uncover buried arms in Balmo forest



The ongoing mopping up operation in Balmo forest has led to more discoveries of arms stockpiled in underground cells in the forest, according to a statement from the Defence Headquarters,Abuja.

Heart broken young boy commits suicide in Calabar



Friends and family members of a 21-year-old student of Maritime Academy Oron, Effiong Otu are at a loss why he committed suicide by hanging himself on a rope in his room on Thursday morning after he was jilted by his girl friend.

Ann, a family member told newsmen that Effiong was found hanging in his room at Diamond Hill, a few minutes after he collected a rope from neighbours who became suspicious soon after he went inside his room with the rope wondering what he wanted to use it for

Lagos command arrests robbers using police uniforms




The Lagos State Police Command has arrested members of an armed robbery gang, who made use of Mobile Police uniforms to perpetrate their acts in the state.


The four members are Julius George, Samuel Orgah, Lucky Oliseh and Lucky Friday. Our correspondent learnt that they were rounded up on Sunday, June 22, at the Ile Zik area on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

I mistakenly impregnated my elder sister — Man, 25, tells court


A 25 year old man, Shamsu Isa, yesterday told a magistrate court in Kano State that he impregnanted his elder sister in error.

Isa spoke shortly after appearing before the court, following a report made by the Ward Head of the Takalmawa Quarters, to the police that the accused person was having sexual intercourse with his elder sister, contrary to the law.

The Federal Government today July 9th said it has arrested some politicians over evidence of their ties with the dreaded terror sect, Boko haram.

Speaking at a news briefing today at the National Information Centre Abuja, the Coordinator of the Joint Information Centre for Security, Mike Omeiri, said following the recent arrest of some members of Boko Haram in Bauchi and Borno states, some materials retrieved from them after detailed investigation had evidential links with the politicians they have arrested. 15 Nigerian Soldiers Ambushed And Killed As 200 Troops Attempt To Recapture Damboa Barracks From Boko Haram

Nigerian soldiers deployed around noon today (Nigerian time) to recapture Damboa military base suffered huge casualties as Boko Haram militants ambushed them, killing at least 15 soldiers, a security source has disclosed.

Human rights activist, Bamidele Aturu, dies at 49


A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, is dead.

A source close to him said the vibrant legal mind died of high blood pressure on Wednesday. He was age 49.

Aturu, who was reportedly rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja in the early hours of Wednesday, was confirmed dead by medical personnel later in the day

Student shot in UNILAG hostel



A student was reportedly shot in the head by unidentified gunmen on Monday at the King Jaja Hall area of the University of Lagos, Lagos State.

The student who was identified as Sapara, a final year student of Philosophy, had his face covered in blood after a bullet was said to have scraped the side of his head.

Redeemers varsity student kills dad at Redemption Camp


The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old undergraduate, Tolani Ajayi, of Redeemers University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Charles Ajayi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.


The incident, according to the police, occurred on Tuesday, July 3, at their residence on Canaanland Street within the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Redemption Camp.

Over 60 women and girls escape from Boko Haram abductors in Borno


More than 60 women and girls abducted last month by suspected Boko Haram militants in northeast Nigeria have escaped their captors, sources said Sunday.

Local vigilante Abbas Gava said he had “received an alert from my colleagues … that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home” late Friday

53 Terrorists Die As Troops Location Come Under Attack … 4 Arrested With Explosives Hidden In A Truck Carrying Fish Consignment

Over 50 terrorists died as troops repelled a daring attack on troops’ locations in Damboa, Borno State yesterday night.  The terrorists had stormed the troops’ bases and police locations while most of the troops were out on patrol of surrounding villages.
A total of 5 soldiers and a senior officer were also killed while repelling the attack.  A Cordon and search of the locality is ongoing, while the bodies of the fallen soldiers have been recovered and deposited in the military morgue.  The wounded are also receiving treatment in the military medical facility.

A Nigerian man was detained on a psychiatric ward for 18 days because he did not believe in God, a humanist charity has said.


Mubarak Bala said he was detained and medicated at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, in Kano state, northern Nigeria, by his Muslim family after speaking openly about his religious beliefs, the International Humanist and Ethical Union has said.
