FG procures 40 attack helicopters with night vision

Nigeria wins first gold in Commonwealth Games in Glasgow


Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha has given Nigeria its first gold at the Commonwealth Games which started in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday July 24th.

Chika won the gold medal today after pulling a total of 196 points in snatch and clean and jerk in the 53kg class to beat her competitors from New Guinea & India who picked the silver & bronze medals.

Nigeria, Cameroon, others deploy 2,800 troops against Boko Haram



Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger have agreed to quickly form a new force that would comprise 2,800 soldiers to fight the Boko Haram insurgents.


The defence ministers of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger said they would each contribute 700 troops to the force.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, Niger’s Defence Minister, Karidio Mahamadou, said they were determined to “eradicate this curse”.

U.S. To Train Nigerian Police



The United States government and Nigeria on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, on a training modernisation project for the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, INL, the Mission said in a statement.

“This MOU represents our two governments’ mutual commitment to engagement on institutional reforms at the NPF training academies,” James Entwistle, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria was quoted as saying in prepared remarks made available to journalists.

Ebola virus gets 'Out of Control' in West Africa



The doctor leading the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone has himself caught the disease. The epidemic has claimed the lives of more than 600 people in West Africa since the beginning of the year.

Sierra Leone's Health Minister, Miatta Kargbo has hailed Dr Cheik Humar Khan, who contracted Ebola disease while caring for patients, as a national hero. He paid tribute to the sacrifices the physician had made during the current outbreak. Humar Kahn is now being treated at a center run by the medical charity Doctors Without Borders. The charity said Sierra Leone has now become an epicenter of the epidemic. It has recorded 454 of the 1,093 Ebola cases registered so far in West Africa.

The Kwara state Police command yesterday July 23rd paraded two men who they said are involved in trading of human parts.

The men whose names were given as Amos Kareem and Abubakar Ladan were arrested with human head, leg and hand in Tabira village, Okuta in Baruten LGA of the state, according to a report by Vanguard.

Condemned Sudanese Christian Woman And Her Family Arrive In Rome

Pope Francis meets Meriam Ibrahim, who had been sentenced to death over charges of apostasy. The Sudanese woman who was spared a death sentence for converting from Islam to Christianity, and then barred from leaving Sudan, arrived in Italy on Thursday, an Italian government official said, according to a story published by the Voice of America.
Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, 27, was on a plane accompanied by Italy's vice minister of foreign affairs, Lapo Pistelli, according to the official who asked not to be named.
"Meriam, the young Christian woman held in Khartoum after being condemned to death for apostasy, should be arriving in Italy on a government flight," the official said in a text message, without specifying when the flight had left.

The Lagos State Government has confirmed a possible case of Ebola Virus, which is been currently investigated while treatment is on for the 40 year old Liberian, who is now a suspect, and a possible 30 others who may have had contact.

Algerian plane with 116 on board crashed today. All on board feared killed

An Air Algerie flight flying from Burkina Faso to Algeria with 116 people on board has dropped off radar.

Swift Air, the operators of the aircraft, said they lost contact with the flight 50 minutes after it took off this morning from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It was supposed to have arrived at Algiers' Houari Boumediene Airport about four hours later but the plane has just disappeared.

Police arrest 3 for car-snatching in Lagos

3 members of a notorious car snatching gang that specializes in snatching exotic cars from residents of the Victoria island, Lekki and Ajah axis of Lagos state have been arrested by men of the Lagos state Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Bar Beach Police station in Lagos. . 
According to Vanguard, the robbers were arrested separately on Saturday July 19th and Monday July 21 as they rode in taxi cabs they had earlier snatched from their owners at gunpoint on their way to steal exotic cars.

Plane crash in Taiwan kills 50



Over 50 people have been reported dead after a TransAsia Airways passenger plane crashed on one of Taiwan's Penghu islands today Wednesday July 23rd. 

According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, at least 9 other people were injured in the crash of the twin-engine turboprop plane, which happened outside Magong airport at about 7 p.m local time.

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known but the region is currently dealing with powerful typhoon.

Another Nigerian University Student Kills Own Father

A 27-year-old undergraduate of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, Chijioke Ezebuiro, was paraded yesterday July 22nd by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly killing his 87-year-old father, Dr. Emmanuel Ezebuiro. This sad event comes barely three weeks after 21 year old Tolani Ajayi killed his 60 year old father inside the Redeemed Christian Church of God campground.

FRSC to impound vehicles without the new number plate and drivers’ licence from August 1


The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday said it would begin enforcement of the new drivers’ licence and number plate on Aug 1.


The Lagos State Sector Commander, Mr Chidi Nkwonta, said that the decision followed the new court judgment.

“This new judgment made it very clear that as from Aug. 1, FRSC should impound.

“So, Nigerians must discountenance that first misleading judgment and take this one because we are going to continue enforcement as from Aug. 1, 2014.

Gunmen rammed a vehicle into his convoy, firing shots at it. Also, two of Gen. Buhari's bodyguards were slightly wounded in the attack, he however escaped unhurt.

Buhari narrowly escapes death in Kaduna bomb blast, 70 confirmed dead


There was pandemonium in Kaduna State on Wednesday as twin bomb blasts rocked the city, killing more than 70 persons.

A former Head of State and a chief of the All Progressives Congress, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), narrowly escaped the second blast.

Chelsea drop Mikel from pre-season tour


These are not the best of times for Mikel Obi. His days appear numbered for Chelsea as the London club dropped the Nigerian from their pre-season European playing tour.

Truck rams into Lagos market, kills 10


A pure water truck has rammed into a meat market (Odo-Eran), on Governors’ Road along LASU-Iba expressway killing at least 10 persons. The truck which was carrying bags of pure water for distribution reportedly lost control and rammed into stalls at the market which is not far from the road.

An eyewitness, who chose to be identified as Tunde, told our reporter that the driver of the bus lost control just as he neared the market. “I want to believe he lost control because there is no plausible explanation for this accident,” said Tunde who arrived the scene shortly after the accident had occurred.

 The woman pictured above, pretending to be a mad woman, was caught this morning July 20th on the Mile 2 Bridge in Lagos with the decomposing body of a 3 year old boy. A police officer who saw her dragging the blue Ghana Must Go bag (pictured), stopped her to search the bag and inside it he discovered the boy's corpse and a lot of charms.

She was immediately arrested and taken away.  The picture of the dead little boy is shown below. Please view with caution...

Nigerian Air Force Helicopter Crashes In Borno State

A helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed today South of Bama, Nigeria’s Defence authorities have said. 
A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said the Mi-35 helicopter was on a training mission, and crashed South of Bama, in Borno State, “due to technical fault.” 
He did not say if there were any casualties or survivors, but stressed that it has been established that the crash was not attributable to enemy action.  

Security operatives harass leader of #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Oby Ezekwesili at Abuja airport



Leader of #BringBackOurGirls campaign and former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, was Monday morning arrested by security agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as she tried to travel to London for a scheduled engagement.

The operatives confiscated her travelling documents as well.


She was however released after the government came under intense pressure as news of her arrest flooded the social media and travelled around the country, with many Nigerians lambasting the administration for increasingly clamping down on critics and members of the opposition.

Sahhara Henson Nigeria’s first openly transgender woman was on July 18, in Phillipines crowned the winner of The World Transgender Pageant – Super Sireyna Worldwide.

For those who do not know Sahhara was born a boy lived in Nigeria and underwent gender reassignment in the UK where she now lives as a woman.
