US Ebola doctor ‘growing stronger each day’


Two weeks after he fell ill with the dangerous Ebola virus in West Africa, a US doctor said Friday his health is better and he maintains his strong faith in God.

“I am growing stronger every day, and I thank God for His mercy as I have wrestled with this terrible disease,” Kent Brantly, 33, wrote in a letter posted online by the Christian aid group for which he worked, Samaritan’s Purse.

Two new cases of Ebola infection confirmed in Lagos.





The federal goverment,Friday, has said that two new cases of Ebola infection have been confirmed in Lagos.


This brings to seven new cases of Ebola in Lagos and a second death from the virus.

Also, the federal government warned against bathing with salt water being circulated via SMSs and the social media as a cure for Ebola, saying it will prosecute individuals who spread such false information.

Ogun writes Adeboye on protection against Ebola disease


The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, on Thursday said the state government had written a letter to the authorities of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to take precautionary measure against the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease during the RCCG annual convention which started on Monday.

Ebola: Liberia apologizes to Nigeria



President of Liberia, Ellen Sirleaf-Johnson has said that the Ebola victim, Patrick Sawyer, was on surveillance, but he sneaked out of Liberia and came to Lagos, where he died 24 hours later.



The Liberian President expressed concern over the unfortunate incident and apologized to Nigeria on behalf of her countryman who brought the virus to the country.

According to the Minister of State on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nurudeem Mohammed, Sirleaf-Johnson told the Federal Government that Sawyer was on surveillance when he sneaked out of Liberia through Asky Airline.

Ebola: US rejects Nigeria’s request for trial drug


The United States of America, yesterday, dashed the hope of an early cure for Ebola Virus victims in Nigeria when it refused to share the trial drug with Nigeria. US President Barak Obama says it would be premature to share the experimental drug with Africa.


The Federal Government had earlier reached out to the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, in Atlanta, to request for the drug for treatment of EVD affected persons in Nigeria, but President Obama turned down the request, saying it would be far more beneficial to focus on prevention instead

Ebola scare: Doctors call off strike



Public doctors in Nigeria today August 7th called off their 5-week old strike to help with the fight against the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria.
 
In a statement issued by the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, the doctors listed “the incursion of Ebola into Nigeria” as a main reason for suspending the strike.

Too early to send experimental Ebola drug to Africa – Obama says


US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence. 
 
Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. 

I’ve slaughtered only five persons - Boko Haram ‘chief butcher’



The ‘Chief Butcher’ of Boko Haram, Mohammed Zakari, said he has slaughtered five persons since he joined the deadly sect in 2012.


The Police however alleged that he had participated in the slaughter of seven people, including women 


 Zakari, 30, said it took him two minutes to slaughter a person while the duty of other members of his gang was to tie their victims.

Recent U.S. surveillance flights over northeastern Nigeria showed what appeared to be large groups of girls held together in remote locations.

The surveillance suggests that at least some of the 219 schoolgirls still held captive haven’t been forced into marriage or sex slavery, as had been feared, but instead are being used as bargaining chips for the release of prisoners

Terrorists raze police station, churches, others in Maiduguri- Many feared killed


Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram sect members, yesterday, attacked the border town of Gwoza at dawn; setting ablaze the Divisional Police Station, council secretariat complex and other buildings.

Scores of people were killed in the process. Gwoza is a border council headquarters, and 135 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, the state capital.

Following the death of the matron that was one of the primary contacts of the late American-Liberian, Mr. Patrick Sawyer, who died recently of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Lagos, Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has described the presence of Ebola in the country as a national emergency.

Chukwu made this known when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Health. He said: “The fact that a Liberian victim of the disease, Mr. Patrick Sawyer could come and die in Nigeria meant that the virus was a global threat.

Nigerian nurse dies of Ebola virus as FG confirms 7 new cases

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, speaking today August 6th at a news conference in Abuja said a Nigerian nurse has died from the Ebola Virus. He said the nurse worked at the Lagos hospital where Liberian Patrick Sawyer was treated. He said she died yesterday. He also revealed that five medical practitioners who interacted with Sawyer have been confirmed to have contracted the deadly virus

6 more people test positive to Ebola virus


There were fears, yesterday, that six of the eight primary contacts of the late Patrick Sawyer, may have tested positive to the Ebola virus, but are yet to show signs of the disease.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said that the seven remaining primary contacts currently in quarantine are showing no signs of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.


A source, who confirmed this to Vanguard, said the six feared to have tested positive are among those who had serious contact with the late Liberian Ebola victim.

Video: Nigerian Military slaughtering human beings - Amnesty International



The Amnesty international (A I), on Monday, released a video footage it claimed showed soldiers lynching men said to be members of Boko Haram. The soldiers were aided by members of the government sponsored militia commonly known as Civilian JTF and the remains of the killed men were buried into a mass grave.

The body said it got the footage, which may be evidence of war crimes committed by the Nigerian military, from several sources during a trip to Borno State.

Female suicide bombers, are they the Chibok girls


Pic on the left is an alleged female suicide bomber but can't be verified that she's any of the ones that blew herself up during an attack in Kano last week....and the pic on the right is one of the missing Chibok girls. You know how some sources have fingered Chibok girls as the suicide bombers? Though the Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, has denied the girls involvement in the attacks... but ....the resemblance is strong but hopefully they are two totally different women.

Boko Haram Kills Nigerian Army Captain, Eight Months After His Wedding

Captain Sule on his wedding day in November 2013Insurgents belonging to the dreaded Islamist group, Boko Haram, have killed Captain Benjamin Sule, a Nigerian army officer who just wedded eight months ago.
 
A close military friend of the late Captain Sule told SaharaReporters that Boko Haram gunmen killed the young, newly wed officer in an attack on a military contingent over the weekend.

Bitter Kola cannot cure Ebola — Health Minister


The Minister for Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said there is no scientific evidence of Garcinia kola, popularly known as bitter kola curing or preventing Ebola virus disease.


The research work that people are laying claims, to according to the minister is inconclusive.

It would be recalled that in 1999, a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Professor of Pharmacognosy, Maurice Iwu, alongside some American researchers conducted a research that showed that extract from bitter cola tend to neutralize the effects of virus. But the outcome of that research work has not been scientifically confirmed to be true or not.

Nigerian doctor who treated Liberian man tests positive to Ebola virus

One of the Nigerian doctors who treated Liberian Patrick Sawyer (pictured right) who died last week in Lagos of Ebola virus, has tested positive to the virus. 
The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, revealed this today Monday August 4th and also said that eight people who had first degree contact with the Liberian have been quarantined and are under strict observation.

Now after attending to Sawyer, this doctor, unaware that he'd exposed himself to Ebola, would have gone home to give his wife a kiss and hugged his daughter/son. God help us. More details later...

The above pic left shows the moment Jones was spotted hand-in-hand with a girl said to be about 9 years old in the country's capital, Phnom Penh. He took the girl shopping, then took her to his rented apartment, had sex with her and returned her home.

Pictured right is Michael with three underage girls, two of them half dressed with another little girl on his lap. The girls are aged 8 and 9 years old. It was later found that he'd had sex with at least one of the girls. It is alleged that Jones took the girls shopping, bought them gifts, had sex with one of them, while grooming the others before taking them back to their houses. Continue...
