Police arrest robbers who raped pregnant woman




The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the robbery at a hotel in Asaba and the rape of a pregnant woman.


The command’s spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, said on Friday that the suspects were arrested by policemen attached to GRA Division after they were alerted about the incident.

Iraq Christians told to convert to Islam or face death



The Islamic State group has threatened Christians in the Iraqi city of Mosul with death if they do not to convert to Islam or pay a tax, Al Jazeera has learned.


The Sunni rebel group issued the orders in a letter after Friday prayers. The document, obtained by Al Jazeera, states that the order was issued after Christian leaders failed to attend a meeting called by the group.

RCCG Pastor butchered by Boko Haram



The killing of a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor by the Boko Haram sect in troubled Borno state has thrown the church into mourning and apprehension.

Malaysian Airliner With 295 Passengers Downed At Russia/Ukrainian Border

Malaysian airlinerA Malaysian Boeing 777 airliner with 295 passengers on board has  been shot down in the  border between Russia and Ukraine. Several reports indicated that the aircraft which was flying from Amsterdam’s Schipol airport to Kuala Lumpur was shot down by Russian forces.
Investigations are ongoing to confirm the allegations, also, there is no information as to whether any of the passengers on board survived the crashed.

Nigeria move up 10 places after World Cup performance


Nigeria rose up ten spots to 34th place in the Fifa rankings released on Thursday, courtesy of the Super Eagles' second round finish at the World Cup in Brazil.


The Eagles are now the third-ranked African side behind Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire who finished in the 24th and 25th positions.

World champions Germany (1) climbed to the top of the pile after defeating Argentina (2) in the showpiece final on July 13. The South Americans are now in second place

Lagos introduces paternity and 6 months leave for nursing Mothers



Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has approved six months maternity leave for female public servants who just gave birth to new born babies.  

The six months maternity leave shall be for the first two babies to be delivered by any female civil servant, while on giving birth to the third baby, the maternity leave would be reduced to three months.

Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life denies banning Ipads & phones in his church

The General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, has denied media reports that he banned the use of Ipads and Iphones in his church. He released a statement to that effect on his Facebook page. 

Jonathan seeks $1 Billion loan to fight Boko Haram

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan pleaded with the Nigerian legislature for approval to borrow up to $1 billion, to help the military combat the Boko Haram insurgency.

"For this reason, I seek the concurrence of the National Assembly for external borrowing of not more than $1 billion," he furthered.

Tambuwal asks Federal Government to negotiate with Boko Haram




The Speaker of the House of Representative, Aminu Tambuwal has asked the President to negotiate with terror group, Boko Haram if that would secure the safe return of the kidnapped Chibok girls.
The speaker said this yesterday July 15th while receiving the leadership of the #BringBackOurGirls campaigner in his office at the House of Assembly.
"If negotiations is what would bring back for example Chibok girls, for Goodness sake, lets negotiate and save the children. Negotiation is not submitting......you are not just submitting, you are not. It is a strategy. So let's get these girls out and then if you want to confront them you go ahead and confront them and take them head on but whatever we need to do, we must do as a government to bring back these girls safely & alive" he said.
He urged the campaigners to continue with their demands for accountability.

BH killed 2,053 civilians in 6months- Human Right Watch


The Islamist insurgency Boko Haram in Nigeria killed at least 2,053 civilians in an estimated 95 attacks during the first half of 2014, a report by Human Rights Watch said yesterday. 
The figures are based on detailed analyses of media reports as well as field investigations. The killings and other abuses were part of widespread attacks on civilians in over 70 towns and villages in northeastern Nigeria, in the federal capital, Abuja, and elsewhere that are apparent crimes against humanity.

A meeting scheduled between President Goodluck Jonathan and the parents of abducted girls in Chibok, Tuesday, could not hold as the parents shunned the meeting.
The meeting was arranged after education activist, Malala Yousofazai met with President Jonathan on Monday and pleaded with the him to meet with the parents of the abducted girls.
President Jonathan in a statement delivered by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe accused the #Bringbackourgirl activists of politicising the planned meeting by ferrying the parents out of Abuja before the meeting could hold.

Wealthy Nigerians splash N34.9b annually on maintenance of jets


According to an Encomium magazine report,
Wealthy Nigerians are living large, with the richest among us shelling out billions of naira on private jets and their maintenance.
Information available to Encomium revealed that two expatriates usually man these toys and their take home monthly salary is N1.5 million. That means an average of 500 pilots are in charge of the wheel of these jets. Thus, monthly, the 250 jet owners squander over N750 million and that equals N9 billion annually.

Zimbabwe to bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034


Zimbabwe will bid to host the Fifa World Cup in 2034 as it will by then have the capacity to host such a mega event when Africa gets another chance of hosting the tournament, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi has said.Speaking after meeting Chief Mutoko (Philemon Nyachoto) at his offices in Harare, who visited to congratulate him after Zimbabwe recently won the World Best Tourism Destination for 2014 Award and the World Favourite Cultural Destination Award, Minister Mzembi said he had talked to Fifa president Joseph Sepp Blatter during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa who told him that it was possible for Zimbabwe to host the mega event.
