Nigeria can’t afford to pay 42 ministers – Buhari


President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his government and Nigeria can not afford to pay forty two ministers and that not all the ministerial nominees that have been screened will have portfolios.

He went on to say that he will reduce the numbers of ministries.


Buhari in an interview with Channels TV and The Nigerian Television Authority in New Delhi in India said that he is working with a team of people introduced to him by others that he trusts and must work with them.

Abacha's loot is too huge for us to handle - World Bank


The World Bank says it needs additional time to provide comprehensive information on the spending of recovered funds looted by the late Nigerian Head of State, Sani Abacha.

The World Bank told the human rights group seeking information on the loot, which is about seven billion dollars, that for now it is compiling information on the spending.

According to the World Bank “In response to your request, we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and we will need additional time because the money involved is too huge for us to handle.”

FIFA accepts seven presidential candidates


FIFA has accepted seven presidential candidates to stand to replace incumbent Joseph Blatter at an extraordinary congress in 2016, excluding former player David Nakhid, the world football governing body said on Wednesday.

An online statement did not give specific reasons for not accepting the bid of Nakhid, a former Trinidad and Tobago international, saying only that FIFA’s member associations have proposed, in due time and form, seven candidates.

A fake lawyer, Olawale Falola, who claimed to be a dropout of a university in Osun State was arrested by the Oyo State Police Command during a stop-and-search in Ibadan recently.

It was gathered that after seeing a sticker belonging to the Nigeria Bar Association on his windscreen, the police asked him about his identity, but he couldnt defend his 'Lawyer' status.

A lawyer was arrested after allegedly leaving her children in the car while she was in court. A passerby noticed two toddlers locked inside a car in the Riverdale Municipal Court parking lot around 8:15 a.m. Thursday. The individual went into the courthouse and alerted an officer who checked and found the children were left unattended.

Xenophobia: South Africa blasts Nigeria for recall of High Commissioner



The South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation, has described the recall of Nigeria’s High Commissioner as an “unfortunate and regrettable” diplomatic step.

The general attitude of Patience Jonathan contributed to her husband’s loss - PDP chief


Bayelsa State publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Osom Makbere, has said President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election due to international and domestic conspiracies.

Makbere, who is also a lawyer, stated this in an exclusive interview in Yenagoa on Friday.

He said the divisions in the PDP fold and the overbearing attitude of the President’s wife, Dame Patience, also contributed to the president’s loss.

Giving insight on the failure of the President at the poll, Makbere said, “History has stated that no failure, defeat or loss is a product of a single factor. Jonathan’s loss could be blamed on a multiplicity of interwoven causes.

Jonathan sacks IGP Suleiman Abba, appoints DIG Solomon Arase



President Jonathan has sacked IGP Suleiman Abba, and appointed DIG Solomon Arase as Acting IGP with immediate effect, according to a tweet by Dr. Reuben Abati, the spokesperson of the president.


IGP Suleiman Abba, NPM, NPOM, mni was the 17th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police and was appointed by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. He formally took over on August 1, 2014 formally from former Police boss, IGP MD Abubakar (Rtd) who had successfully piloted the affairs of the Force from 25th January, 2012 when he was appointed to July 31, 2014, having completed 35 years of service.

Police in South Africa arrests Killers of Mozambican, Emmanuel Sithole.

South African police have arrested 3 of the four men who attacked Mozambican, Emmanuel Sithole on the streets of Alexandra on Saturday April 18th. Emmanuel later died of his wounds in an hospital,

According to the police,
“The suspects were arrested in Alexandra (on Sunday evening) with help from the members of the community. Several exhibits that may be used as evidence were seized during the arrests” Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

Sen. Uche Chukwumerije is dead.



Chukwumerije, a former Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, died on Sunday in a Turkish Hospital in Abuja at the age of 75.

He was a three-time senator that represented Abia North, he was elected into the Senate in 2003.
Chika Chukwumerije, son of the deceased said in a telephone interview that his father died of lung cancer at exactly 4.30 p.m., on Sunday.

Migrants kill 15 Nigerians, Ghanaians in Mediterranean Sea


Around 15 Nigerian and Ghanaian Christians were thrown to their deaths on Thursday in the Mediterranean Sea by fellow travellers from Ivory Coast, Mali and Senegal as they attempted to land in Italy from Libya in search of a better life in Europe.

According to Reuters on Friday, the Italian police in the Sicilian capital of Palermo, arrested no fewer than 15 men from the three countries suspected to have carried out the gruesome act under religious bias on Friday.

Nigerian man stabs fiancée to death in Texas


Last Wednesday, Osa Alohaneke, a Nigerian resident in Texas, murdered his estranged fiancée, Evelyne Ebane Epiepang.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s office said in a statement that 56-year-old Osa Alohaneke had been charged with murder. He was being held without bond at the county jail. Deputies arrived at the Mission Bend home Wednesday night and discovered 52-year-old Epiepang dead inside. Her sister was taken to a hospital for treatment from injuries that were not life threatening. Deputies earlier in the day had received a call from the woman but when they arrived, Alohaneke had left.

Nigerians in serious danger in South Africa



The President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, said on Friday that xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals were on the increase.

Anyene told the News Agency of Nigeria on phone from Pretoria, South Africa, that the mechanic workshop of a Nigerian was completely destroyed early on Friday in Johannesburg.

Nigerians expect a lot from you, Obasanjo tells Buhari


Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to realize that Nigerians are expecting a lot from him when he eventually takes over power May 29.

Mr. Obasanjo is currently in Sudan as an AU observer in the country’s presidential election.

Mr. Obasanjo said he was not ready to “say too much” about the election but noted that Nigerians have passed a message to the retired general by asking for change.

Foreign-owned shops close in Joburg amid fears of attacks

According to reports by SA media, a number of shops owned by foreigners have closed their shops in the Johannesburg CBD area after allegedly receiving threats from a mob. The group, who are said to be Zulu boys, threatened to attack any shops that remained open. They recently looted many shops in Durban and killed about 10 foreign immigrants, including Nigerians. They burnt some people inside their shops.

Buhari's government might face challenges protecting Nigerians from terrorism - US



The U.S. Secretary of State, Mr John Kerry, has predicted that the new government in Nigeria might face the challenge of protecting its citizens against terrorism threats. Kerry made the assertion in a statement by the African Regional Media Hub of the United States Department of State on Tuesday in Lagos. The statement quoted Kerry as making the prediction after signing a Memorandum of Cooperation to support disease control and prevention in Africa with the African Union (AU) in Washington D.C.

We deny Nigerians with criminal records visas - South Africa



Consul-General, South African High Commission in Nigeria, Ambassador Mogethi Monaisa, on Monday said the commission sometimes deny issuance of its visas to Nigerians it discovered to be having criminal records.
“The commission does not just deny people visas, but it is either that those it sometimes deny issuance of visas are discovered to have criminal records or failed to meet its requirements. Nigerians should personally visit our websites for necessary information and requirements for applying for South African visas,” Monaisa told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos

Lagos Governorship Elections: I will not contest again - Jimi Agbaje



Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Jimi Agbaje has declared his intention not to contest again for the position of governor in Lagos after the losing twice.

Agbaje who lost to All Progressives Congress (APC) Party candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode with a 152,206 vote margin spoke to ChannelsTV correspondent on Sunday evening after his opponent was declared winner.

Ambode Of APC Leads In Lagos Governorship Race

Based on results announced from 55% of polling units across Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by more than 80,000 votes.
